How Wena Wednesday began
Wena Wednesday began in 2025 with a simple intention: give back to the people of Johannesburg.
The initiative started under Go Fund Yourself, owned by Praneshan Naidoo. Today, with the rebrand complete, it continues under Fund The People. The name has changed. The commitment to our city continues.
Every Wednesday morning, our team makes time to serve warm drinks and something to eat. It is a small part of the week that we want to make count.
Because the people matter
Johannesburg gets moving long before the working day begins. Behind that movement are people heading to work, caring for families and doing what they can to get ahead.
We started Wena Wednesday because we wanted to give something back. A warm cup and something to eat give us a chance to meet people, say good morning and show that they matter to us.
For Fund The People, building a lasting business also means being present in the community we call home. Wena Wednesday is one way we put that belief into practice.
A weekly commitment. A growing connection.
Since 2025, our team has reported an estimated cumulative reach of 15,000+ through Wena Wednesday.
For us, the value of these mornings is also in the moments between serving: a greeting, a conversation and a familiar face returning the following week.
We want Wena Wednesday to be a dependable part of the city’s morning routine. By continuing to show up, we hope to build a legacy of care that people can experience for themselves.
The 15,000+ figure is estimated cumulative reach reported by Fund The People to date, rather than a weekly attendance figure or a count of unique individuals.
Our people, serving our city
Wena Wednesday is hosted by Fund The People staff members. Our team serves the refreshments, welcomes people in the queue and helps keep the morning moving.
Giving back is something we take part in ourselves. It brings our purpose closer to the people behind the business and the people we meet each week.
