Seven checks before you choose
1. Buyer and order fit
Does the provider accept your government, municipal or corporate buyer? Check the order size and whether the work is goods, services, manufacturing or a combination.
2. The full cost
Ask for a rand total for the expected period, the amount used to calculate each charge, any upfront fees and any charges for an extension. Compare quotes on the same basis.
3. Margin after funding
Subtract supplier, delivery and other direct costs, then funding charges. What remains still needs to cover your overheads, tax and unexpected costs.
4. Timing that works
Confirm the steps between assessment and supplier payment. Align those steps with stock availability, quotation expiry and the buyer’s delivery date.
5. Security and responsibilities
Ask about sureties, guarantees, cession, deposits and the process if the buyer rejects goods or pays late. Confirm who remains responsible for delivery.
6. Supplier and delivery support
Clarify what help is included with sourcing, verification, logistics, assembly and proof of delivery. A client story shows one experience; your agreement sets your own scope.
7. Evidence and communication
Look for named clients, clear company details and a contact who can explain progress. Read the original review or video, then ask how the relevant support applies to your order.
Compare the rand cost, not only the percentage
Interest and fees
Check the rate, charging period and administration or management fees. A quoted interest rate may be only one part of the cost.
A fixed charge
Ask what amount the percentage applies to and whether the charge changes if the transaction takes longer.
Profit sharing
Confirm whether the calculation uses gross or net profit, which costs are deducted first and how adjustments are handled.
A percentage is only useful once you know what it is charged on and for how long. A once-off fee on the order value and a monthly charge on the amount advanced are different calculations. Ask every provider to show the total amount you would pay under the same payment-date assumption.
Illustrative example · not a Fund The People quote
What remains from a R300,000 order?
Order revenue
R300,000
Supplier costs
− R210,000
Delivery and other direct costs
− R15,000
Total funding charges in the example
− R18,000
Contribution before overheads and tax
R57,000
Here, R300,000 − R210,000 − R15,000 − R18,000 leaves R57,000. If additional funding charges of R6,000 applied, the contribution would fall to R51,000. Use one consistent VAT basis when comparing figures. This simplified example excludes VAT, tax and overheads and is not a funding offer or a net-profit forecast.
Take this question to each provider: “What will the full cost be if my buyer pays on the expected date, and what changes if payment is 30 days late?”
Put your next awarded order within reach
A funding enquiry is easier when you know where you fit and what to send. Our current pathway focuses on awarded public-sector work. We help you present the order and supplier requirements so you can explore funding through funding providers.
A clear starting point: a CSD-registered South African company, a valid government or municipal order of at least R250,000, and a current supplier quote.
A guided enquiry: share the documents you have and identify anything still being prepared.
Named client accounts: watch Ruth Gamede of Nomady Group and Thavonga Rufetu of Khanozama Trading describe their experience.
A visible company and founder: explore our service pages, founder profile and original media links.
Fund The People facilitates access to funding. The provider makes the assessment and sets any agreement terms. When an opportunity progresses, approved supplier payments follow the agreed arrangement; you remain responsible for supplier quality and fulfilment.
Ruth describes researching Fund The People before approaching the team. In her account, support continued from the purchase order through stock delivery, assembly and proof of delivery. She also highlights transparency and an understanding of small-business realities.

What is the best purchase order funding option in South Africa?
The best option fits your buyer, order, supplier costs and delivery date, with a total cost your contract can carry. For CSD-registered South African companies holding valid government or municipal purchase orders of at least R250,000, Fund The People offers a facilitation route to explore. Compare the written terms before choosing.
Does Fund The People provide the funding directly?
Fund The People facilitates access to funding through funding providers. Our team helps you present your order and supplier requirements. The funding provider assesses the application and sets any approval and agreement terms.
Can a new business or first-time tender winner enquire?
Tell our team how long your company has operated and which documents are available. A valid order is a starting point, not an approval. If you do not have six months of company bank statements, explain that at the start so the team can clarify the appropriate next step.
Can I apply with a private-sector purchase order?
Fund The People’s current standard pathway focuses on government and municipal purchase orders. If your buyer is a private company, identify this when you enquire so our team can clarify whether an appropriate route is available. Identify the buyer at the start so our team can understand your enquiry.
How quickly can purchase order funding be arranged?
Ask separately about the time to assess a complete application, the time to issue terms and the time to pay a supplier after conditions are met. Share your delivery deadline early. A fast initial response is different from funds being available for delivery.
Is the cheapest quote always the best choice?
Compare the total rand cost over the expected funding period, any contribution you must make, security terms and the effect of delayed customer payment. A lower headline percentage can still leave a higher final cost if the charging base or duration differs.
Does no collateral mean no security or obligations?
No. Ask whether an agreement includes personal surety, guarantees, cession of customer payments or other security. Different providers use different structures, so the written agreement should explain the obligations that apply to your deal.
Can I use purchase order funding after I have delivered?
If the work is complete and an invoice is awaiting payment, invoice discounting may be the more relevant route to discuss. Purchase Order Funding Solutions address supplier inputs before delivery. Tell Fund The People which stage your transaction has reached.
Can I apply before I have won the order?
Fund The People’s current purchase order pathway starts with a valid awarded government or municipal order. An open tender, RFQ or expected award is an earlier stage. Use the tender guidance to prepare, then share the confirmed order once it is issued.
Is all purchase order funding interest-free?
No. Providers use different arrangements, including loans with interest and fees, fixed charges and profit sharing. Ask for the full cost and calculation basis. Fund The People’s funding provider sets the terms of any proposed agreement.
You have the order. Let’s work through the next step.
If your company has a valid government or municipal purchase order worth at least R250,000, tell us about it. Have your supplier quote ready and share the delivery date so our team can understand the opportunity.
